Abstract

While waiting, what do you concretely waiting for? The rhetoric of waste reveals a perspective from which it is possible to contemplate the concept of time when it turns into waiting through the rereading of some pieces from the short fiction of the second half of the twentieth century by authors such as Ercole Patti and Vitaliano Brancati. Thanks to the most well-known characters of their novels, it is possible to identify a vision of the world that reflects the social uneasiness due to an introspective stalemate status, a global condition in this time troubled by the pandemic emergency. In a setting that aims to investigate contemporaneity, the authentic erotic lesson of these writers returns to force.
